At this time board eligibility is not a requirement for certification, however it is recommended due to the emphasis and expectation of certain credentialing committees. This status is not automatically established following a residency and/or subspecialty training program and requires that certain criteria be met. Board eligibility can be granted for a period of 6 (six) years, beginning with the completion date of residency or subspecialty training and extending until December 31 of the following sixth year. Candidates may apply for board eligibility at any time during this time frame.

Upon receipt of the application and verification that all requirements have been met, board eligibility will be activated and the candidate will receive documentation from the AOBOG indicating the dates of board eligibility. This document may be duplicated and used as verification of board eligibility status.
If primary source verification of board eligibility is required, submit a request to the AOBOG along with a $25.00 processing fee.
